GASTROINTESTINAL WELLNESS SUPPORT
GASTROINTESTINAL WELLNESS SUPPORT
GastroZen provides nutritional gastrointestinal tract support, for optimal gastrointestinal health and wellbeing.
Consider GastroZen if Your Horse Is:
- In poor condition, with low appetite or a low rate of feed conversion
- On a high grain or concentrate, and/or low fibre diet
- Recently treated with antibiotics or other chemical treatments
- Exhibiting symptoms of inflammatory bowel disease (loose or irregular bowel movements, feed sensitivity)
- Experiencing gastrointestinal ulceration, bacterial infection or yeast overgrowth
- Displaying symptoms of gastrointestinal pain or discomfort (ear pinning, aggression around rugging, grooming or saddling)
If your horse is experiencing behavioural issues, particularly aggression or general crankiness, which cannot be traced back to any muscular, chiropractic, arthritic or psychological issues; your horse may be experiencing pain related to the conditions within his or her gastrointestinal environment. Your horse’s gut is the centre of their wellbeing – so many chemical processes, and subsequent reactions, originate from the inter-relationship of feedstuffs, enzymes and microflora within the gastrointestinal tract, that it only makes sense to begin within, and resolve any potential issues from the inside-out.
By addressing your horse’s health at the gut level, you may find that numerous other areas of their health, wellness and productivity are improved without any additional consultation, making GastroZen an easy and economical choice for all-round health and wellbeing.
The GastroZen blend includes:
Stabilised, Full-Fat Flax Seed Meal (Linum usitatissimum)
Flax seed provides a powerhouse of nutrients including proteins, omega-3 essential fatty acids and a prebiotic gum. Prebiotics are an essential aid to gut microbial balance, and in studies, the prebiotic benefit derived from flax has been shown to improve beneficial gut microflora population better than probiotics. Prebiotics are the food which beneficial microflora consume in order to proliferate, so by feeding the gut micrflora you are creating the right environment for them to naturally replicate and flourish, rather than adding more bacteria (via probiotics) to an environment which cannot sustain them. Increasing hind-gut populations of beneficial microflora also increases natural, enteric production of b-group vitamins, including thiamine (B1), vitamin B12, and vitamin K, and improves feed usage, meaning a calmer, happier horse, and better value from your horse’s diet. The various proteins in flax assist with tissue repair by providing the building blocks necessary for healthy new intestinal tissue, while Omega-3 fatty acid is anti-inflammatory, so helps to mediate the inflammation which can result from gastrointestinal injury or infection, and facilitate healing.
Nigella Seed Powder (Nigella sativa)
Nigella is a traditional food of Indian and Arab nations, perhaps most commonly recognised in Australia by its presence atop loaves of turkish bread. Nigella is taditionally used to address a myriad of ailments of the digestive and respiratory tracts, including gastritis and ulceration. It is rich in organic Iron, which can be beneficial in cases of bleeding ulcers, as well as magnesium, copper, zinc and manganese. Nigella has been studied extensively for gastro-protective, antibacterial, antifungal, antiparasitic and antiinflammatorry effects with excellent results. It is antibacterial against Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli, and antifungal against Candida albicans.
Fennel Seed Powder (Foeniculum vulgare)
Fennel seeds boast a delicious aniseed flavour, and offer carminative and digestive benfits. They are antibacterial and antifungal against a range of pathogens, including streptococcus and candida.
Ginger Root Powder (Zingiber officinale)
Ginger root is a traditional digestive remedy, used in drinks and confectionery as well as herbal teas as an after dinner digestif – to aid digestion, particularly after a heavy meal. Ginger is warming and stimulates ‘digestive fire’, so that food is rapidly metabolised and nutrients made use of, rather than food becoming rancid, improperly digested, and toxic to the body. Ginger has been studied in conjunction with licorice root for its effect on gastrointestinal ulceration, and this combination is often prescribed in naturopathy for its positive effect in resolving lesions.
Licorice Root Powder (Glycyrrhiza glabra)
Licorice root is a time-honored herb for resolving H.pylori infection and subsequent gastrointestinal ulceration. Compounds in licorice root have been shown to selectively inhibit the proliferation of harmful microflora, including streptococci and candidas, within the GI tract, without affecting beneficial microflora populations, hence, it has been traditionally used to balance microflora populations within the GI tract. Licorice root stimulates the increased production of munin, the mucosal covering of the GI tract, thereby covering ulcerative lesions, protecting against the burn of stomach acid, preventing further injury, and facilitating a healing environment.
Bentonite Clay Powder (Sodium Bentonite)
Humans and animals alike have made use of clays throughout the milennia, internally and externally, for their therapeutic benefits. Clays are mineral rich and negatively charged, being able to neutralise and draw toxins, and improve general health and wellness. Bentonite clay is traditionally used to bind mycotoxins, bad bacteria and heavy metals within the GI tract, for safe elimination via the bowel movements. Binding of toxins throughout the GI tract with a suitable and stable binder can reduce the incidence of re-uptake of liver wastes during transit through the large intestine and on to the colon, so they are not able to cause any further harm once they have been captured.
